Street Scenes in Kolkata India
Kolkata known as the 'City of Joy', the 'Cultural capital of India', Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) is a city with character and remnants of British Raj visible in its Victorian-style architecture. Kolkata is one of the most densely populated cities in India With a heritage of its own, this city along the banks of river Ganga is known for its culture, people, food, music, literature and the movies. Formerly known as Calcutta, India’s third largest city is over-crowded, polluted, traffic-congested and mired in poverty yet there is a certain charm about it, visible only to those willing to slow down enough to see it. Being the cultural and political capital of the state of West Bengal, as well as the official capital of Colonial India during the British reign, Kolkata lays claim to one of India’s more vibrant settings. The following images were taken during a visit of only three days to this subtly beautiful city. A serious photographer with an interest in street photography can easily lose several weeks here.
